## Dividing 2 and 3 Digit Numbers

Once students are comfortable with multiplication, basic division facts should come relatively easily, as division is the inverse of multiplication. (ie. 3 x 4 = 12 & 12 / 4 = 3).

In fourth grade, students will divide 2 and 3 digit numbers by single digit numbers.

**‘Double Division’?**

Double division is a new way of teaching students division that’s being used in a number of schools.

Proponents argue that it’s easier to understand because it deals in whole numbers and doesn’t require students to estimate how many times one number goes into another.
